“There are more sad stories about paintings being damaged between the conservation laboratory and the display wall, or the storage area and the display, than there are about paintings being damaged in good quality traveling crates. We can call this phenomenon ‘the problem of the last 100m’ and the even bigger ‘problem of the last 10m’.”
— Canadian Conservation Institute
Artist Engineering Hardware provides artworks with an entirely non-contact logistics ecosystem: from the crate through to installation, artworks are securely packed, shipped, staged, installed — and completely untouched. The product of five years’ R&D and laboratory testing, AE Hardware was designed in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia, to address the highest-frequency risk event that has been hiding in plain sight since the movement of art objects began: handling.
For UKRG members, AE Hardware presents a practical way to reduce incidents, insurance claims, and collection losses across exhibitions, loans, and storage. It succeeds the folding brace as the standard travel frame attachment, integrates hanging hardware for exhibition and storage, presents the first practical solution to waste from single-use gloves during handling, and introduces non-contact as the emerging standard in collection care.
