National Railway Museum News: NRM+ and Loan Applications
Maria Rollo, NMSI Registrar

The National Railway Museum is undertaking a major museum development project, scheduled to open in 2012. Under the working title NRM+, it aims to take the National Railway Museum to new dimensions with the introduction of new permanent gallery displays and temporary exhibition programmes, as well as a new contemporary art gallery space. NRM+ will explore the human stories around railways and their impact on our lives, our world and our culture. The interpretation of railway history will be re-explored through existing and new collections, where the programme on offer will encourage greater visitor numbers and new audiences to the Museum.

The project will take up a large proportion of staff time from across the National Railway Museum, and in order to meet the deadlines proposed for NRM+ we will not be able to take forward any new loan requests for exhibitions or events from January 2010 to December 2012. It should also be noted that restrictions will start to apply to all loan applications during 2009, except for those which we are already committed to and those that impact directly upon NRM+. Approval of any loan requests during this period will be at the discretion of the National Railway Museum and will only be taken forward if they are linked to the NRM+ project.

Should you require any further information, please contact Helen Batchelor, Assistant Registrar, National Railway Museum by email.
